I seemed to get several inquiries about a deodorant stone when I posted about it before. Here is a brief explanatory snippet that shows it and how to use it.
It’s very effective against odor and such. For regular day to day it’s just absolutely perfect. If you are a heavy sweater or such you might pair it with a bit of powder or whatnot but I haven’t needed it.
I was a former "Secret Powder Fresh" addict. Man, I used to coat that stuff because I enjoyed the baby butt fresh smell and I never liked the feeling of skin sticking to each other under the armpit! I guess guys don’t think about things like that because you have hair there. I do shave the pits and if you go solo it feels a little sticky and slightly rawish. I think that must have started our love affair with deodorants and armpit hygiene, more the smell and feeling and less the sweat.
It does really inhibit sweat, but I really only start sweating when I’m running 3-4 miles. I really don’t mind sweating at the gym because heck, that’s what I’m supposed to be doing. I really don’t get when we started thinking that women had to not sweat and smell like a flower all the time anyway! After running four miles, doing weights and finishing with sit-ups YEAH I’m sweating. I’m HAPPY when I’m sweating because it means the extra junk in the trunk is getting melted off. At least I hope.
It is made of natural mineral salts, and does not contain aluminum which has been linked (in some circles) to breast cancer and Alzheimers. The National Cancer Institute says no link, but really…….I’ve become very wary of anything having to do with many of our government funded research or that passes through our slack ass FDA. When corporations are giving lots 'o money for research it makes me wary of outcomes.
Essentially aluminum in deodorants and such plug up the sweat duct. Some scientists say that this may mimic estrogen like effects that promote the growth of breast cancer cells. As you can’t link things when you post through YouTube, I’ll put a nice article under my Crunchy Spotlight on the right for a bit.
Mine only looks jagged because I dropped it. It will break in two if you drop it on tile! It does normally appear rounded and I keep mine in a little dish on the counter. You can carry it in a little pouch if you need to take it away from home.
I bought the small size and it’s lasted for months and months. At about $3.00 it’s really a bargain for you and for the planet. I chose the one that isn’t in a plastic tube or such and it’s easy to use. This should last well over a year, or so they say. It's easy to find online or at a health food store.
I actually started using one last year when I had to go in for a mammogram and tests after finding a lump in my breast. So far the ruling is that it is a plugged duct still there after all of the massive breast infections after having Luke (sorry if that is TMI for any male readers) but it was enough to scare me into really looking at what’s going on with the sisters. I’d much rather lower my risk of cancer then smell like a baby’s butt just because it’s my armpit habit. Thrift and environmental savings are just further motivators now.

I'm a Soft & Dri Powder Soft girl myself, but I think I'm going to give the deodorant stone a try. Thanks for the information, Shannon!
You're so full of good information!
Great posts lately Shan! (well, as always really...;) )Xxx
Deodorant stone truly works great and it is on the market for many, many years - it means it is very well tested.
Most people are quite allergic to 'chemical trendy and fashionable designer deodorants', but not many people speak about their problems, because the immense marketing effect of big merchant corporations is simply to strong to be noticed.
Shannon--
I've been meaning to tell you how much I admire and appreciate your courage and conviction in the way you're talking about the things that matter to you.
We are trying in little baby steps to make changes, too. You inspire me and help me see that I should take more action, take a greater stand, be more vocal.
So, thanks.
I might even try the deoderant stone, too.
Wesley
Aw, shank-ya Wesley. I do hope we get to meet someday! Shan
Thanks so much Shannon. I am definitely going to try it out - great info.
When I met Lance, the stone is all he would use...still does, if he takes the time anyways. I am in total agreement with WJ, you are always inspiring me to do better...to take it one step further.
Keep on truckin' like you do, I'm loving it!
I would LOVE to try this deodorant stone. I have problems with over sweating. Which brand and where do you recommend buying it?? Thanks for this GREAT tip!!
